Early Warning System (EWS) Programme

This high-profile campaign (covered by the BBC Panorama documentary ‘Surviving Syria's schools’ ) called for an end to the bombings of schools as well as fundraising to install early warning systems against aerial attacks in 150 high risk schools in Syria to protect children - giving them 6 minutes to evacuate if their school is targeted.

In 2021 SRRF raised funds to provide 10 schools (out of a total of 75) with EWS coverage. The tangible impacts of this programme include -

  • 75 early warning systems installed

  • 27,820 children and teachers protected by the alarms

  • 18 real world safe school evacuations with zero injuries

  • 413 children supported with individualised focused sessions and services improving their psychosocial wellbeing

  • 99% of parents feel safer sending their children to schools

  • Since November 2021, zero children were killed or targeted at schools

Feeling safe while learning should not be a luxury. The impact of this program is clear to see!
